In this post, we’ll tell you all you need to know about the two new teams, schedule of IPL 2022 and much more about the biggest league of cricket in the world.

The 15th season of the Indian Premier League will have a significant beneficial impact on the tournament’s future.

IPL 2022 New Format:

Who will win the match today – We cover all major cricket tournaments and matches – ODI Cricket World Cup, T20 World Cup, IPL, Big Bash, CPL, Blast, and much more. This isn’t the first time the IPL has expanded to ten teams; it happened a decade ago. In a statement, the BCCI stated that the season will consist of 74 matches (rather than the current 60), with each side playing seven home and away games. As a result, the event is likely to revert to the 2011 format.

The 10 teams were then divided into two groups of five and ranked on a single-point table. Each team faced the other four teams in their group twice (eight matches), four teams from the other group once (four matches, either home or away), and the remaining team from the other group twice (eight matches).

The composition of the groups, as well as who played whom in each group, was determined by a random draw once and twice. So, how has the conventional IPL format changed? Let’s take a look at the adjustments and a more in-depth look at the new structure of IPL 2022.

10 Teams and Old Format:

Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad are the eight main teams in the Indian Premier League.

Although, The Ahmedabad and Lucknow franchises now have two extra teams; both franchises have yet to be formally named.

We would have seen a total of 94 matches in IPL 2022 if it had been a classic IPL format with each side playing against each other at home, which is 34 more than the standard 60 matches. However, the conventional structure will not be used in 2022; instead, the teams will use the 2011 format.

IPL 2022 Predictions:

This season’s championship was won by Chennai, and IPL prediction of the winner of the future season is difficult now. Making an IPL 2022 prediction now would be unfair. We will have two new clubs for the next season.

For all participants, we expect a fresh auction. Then we’ll be able to look at the teams and assess who seems to be the greatest on paper. Fans, on the other hand, may anticipate a fantastic IPL 2022 season including 10 teams.

IPL 2022 Matches Structure:

Ten teams will be randomly allocated into two groups of five teams each, according to the new structure. This will be done by a random draw, so no one will know which team belongs to which group until the schedule is finalized.

Consider a scenario for Chennai Super Kings to better grasp the new format. Assume CSK, Delhi Capitals, KKR, MI, and Ahmedabad are all assigned to Group A. PBKS, RR, RCB, SRH, and Lucknow are in Group B, whereas PBKS, RR, RCB, SRH, and Lucknow are in Group A.

CSK will face Delhi Capitals, KKR, MI, and Ahmedabad both at home and away in this scenario, for a total of eight matches. CSK will face a randomly selected team from Group B both at home and away.

The other four teams will only get to witness CSK play once. CSK would play 7 home matches and 7 away matches in total. Every team will play their group members twice, a random member from another group twice, and the other four teams once, similar to CSK.

Following the group round matches, the top four teams in the points table will compete in the Playoffs. This will be quite similar to what we’ve seen in previous IPL tournaments. Qualifier 1 will be played by the top two teams.

However, The Eliminator will be played by the lowest two teams. After that, the winner of the EL and the loser in Q1 will compete in Qualifier 2. The winner of Q2 will face the winner of Q1 in the final.

Team Changes:

When it comes to team changes, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have made the most. Four of their first-choice players are unavailable, while Washington Sundar, their main spinner, is out with a finger injury. Virat Kohli, RCB’s ex-captain for the past 9 years will now play as a regular player under a new captain in the IPL 2022.

In place of Adam Zampa, Finn Allen, Daniel Sams, Kane Richardson, and Washington Sundar, the squad brought in Wanindu Hasaranga, Tim David, Dushanta Chameera, George Garton, and Akash Deep.

In their abroad contingent, the Rajasthan Royals made two changes apiece. Glenn Philips and Tabraiz Shamsi were brought in by RR for Andrew Tye and Jofra Archer, respectively.

In addition, RR just announced the acquisition of Evin Lewis and Oshane Thomas to replace Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes.

Punjab Kings had to make two changes to their lineup. Nathan Ellis and Adil Rashid were brought in to replace Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith, respectively. Due to the absence of Dawid Malan, Punjab Kings have enlisted the help of Aiden Markram.

There is one significant change for KKR. Tim Southee replaces Pat Cummins, who is unavailable. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings is the only club that hasn’t changed its lineup. All of its players are eligible for selection, which gives the teams a major advantage heading into the event.

IPL 2022 will have two new teams:

The two new IPL clubs have been acquired by Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG Group and CVC Capital, an international investment group.

For the new two IPL franchises, the actual winning bid is:

For the Lucknow team, RP – Sanjiv Goenka Group – 7,090cr

CVC Capital has invested $5.600 million in the Ahmedabad club.
