According to the latest news updates, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is most likely to reconsider the ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) given to Shakib Al Hasan for the IPL 2021.
A few days ago, the Bangladeshi all-rounder stated that the BCB has misinterpreted his letter for prioritising IPL over the Test series against Sri Lanka. Thereafter, BCB’s chief, Nazmul Hasan Papon, called an impromptu meeting at his residence.
The agenda of the meeting was to decide whether Shakib Al Hasan could be provided with NOC or not. Which, definitely would decide Shakib’s fate in playing in IPL 2021.
As per the letter written by Shakib to the BCB, he preferred playing in the IPL in order to prepare himself for the upcoming T20 Cricket World Cup in India.
BCB’s Cricket Operation Chairman, Akram Khan, didn’t sound happy with Shakib’s statements. He added that the BCB will reconsider the clearance given to Shakib Al Hasan for participating in the IPL.
Shakib Al Hasan at the Dispute with BCB
With all the statements and activities of Shakib Al Hasan over this matter, BCB’s chief Akram Khan is not so happy.
“What does it imply? If someone is saying that I don’t want to tour Sri Lanka, where we have two Tests, to prepare for the World Cup then what does it actually mean?” Akram questioned.
“I heard that he said that I didn’t read his letter. Perhaps I misunderstood his letter. He wants to play Tests, from what he has said. In the next couple of days, we will discuss his NOC. If he has an interest, he will play Tests in Sri Lanka,” Akram was quoted as saying in Cricbuzz.
“I did not mention anywhere in my letter that I do not want to play Tests. I mentioned in my letter that I want to play in the IPL to prepare myself properly for World Cup (T20 World Cup) but despite that Akram bhai (BCB’s cricket operation chairman) has repeatedly said that I do not want to play Tests,” Shakib had said.
Conclusion
The Indian Premier League 2021 is all set to get underway on April 9, and it’s still unclear whether the Bangladeshi all-rounder will get NOC from the board or not. After missing the 2020 edition of IPL due to a ban, Shakib Al Hasan has been bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a price of INR 3.20 Crores.
Now, it’ll be interesting to see, whether Shakib will be playing for the Knight Riders in the IPL 2021 or in the Test Series against Sri Lanka starting on April 21.
